Investment Plan

Decades of saving deserves more than a generic allocation.

Somewhere along the way, most people end up with money spread across accounts they've accumulated over decades. A 401(k) from a job, maybe an IRA rolled over somewhere else. Or even some savings on the side. What they've rarely had is someone sit down with all of it at once and give them an honest read on whether the setup still makes sense for where they are now.

Retirement changes the math in one specific way that matters: you're no longer adding to what you have, you're drawing from it. When the market drops and you're still working, you ride it out. When the market drops and you're pulling money from accounts to live on, you're selling at the worst possible time. Even when things recover, your plan doesn't always recover with it. At the same time, a retirement that lasts 25 or 30 years means money that just sits still loses ground every year to rising costs. Protecting what you have and keeping it growing aren't opposites, but most portfolios treat them like they are.

We also run a short assessment called the Color of Money. It shows how you actually respond when the market moves. Not how you think you'd handle it. How you're actually wired around money. Then we look at whether your current setup matches that. Most of the time there's a gap, not because something went wrong, but because nobody ever asked.

How your accounts are organized also affects how much you keep. Every dollar in a traditional 401(k) or IRA has a tax bill attached that hasn't come due yet. Which accounts you pull from first, and in what order, changes the total you end up spending by more than most people expect. We look at that as part of the same conversation. When we have the full picture, we put it all in Asset-Map so you can see how everything is working together. That's where the real conversation begins.

Our firm does not provide legal or tax advice. We recommend consulting with a qualified attorney or CPA for any legal or tax matters.
